Attending the event were Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Cong Binh, Vice Chairman of Đồng Nai Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Chanh, along with leaders of Đồng Nai Customs Department and leaders of relevant departments.
To further improve the quality and efficiency of state management on customs, and gradually bring Vietnam Customs to a level equivalent to advanced countries in the region, the Ministry of Finance and the General Department of Vietnam Customs have promoted reform and modernization of customs. This policy has been implemented at customs departments in provinces and cities, including Đồng Nai. After Đồng Nai Customs Department submitted its report, the Ministry of Finance and the General Department of Vietnam Customs conducted a survey, and on May 22, 2012, the General Department of Vietnam Customs issued Official Letter No. 2458/TB-TCHQ notifying that Đồng Nai Customs Department would be equipped with 01 fixed container scanner, to be installed at the centralized cargo inspection site at ICD Tân Cảng - Long Bình.
Thus, according to the 4 steps in the customs modernization process:
- Declaration: Đồng Nai Customs has long implemented automatic customs declaration procedures via the internet, contributing to improved accuracy, efficiency, and speed.
- The inspection stage has also been improved with the installation of the container scanner, which means the flow of goods is expedited quickly, contributing to facilitating businesses and effectively implementing customs reform and modernization.
- The tax collection stage has also been streamlined with support from banks.
- The remaining issue is cargo clearance, which is receiving focused attention, as transportation infrastructure still has many shortcomings and is not yet smooth, causing considerable difficulties in the flow of goods.
Overall, in the process of customs renovation and reform, Đồng Nai Customs is a unit with many outstanding achievements, and the most modern container scanner currently in use in Vietnam will be a major step forward in the journey of customs modernization in general and Đồng Nai Customs in particular.
