On the morning of January 6, 2015, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transportation, together with representatives from the World Bank, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Import-Export, the Vietnam Logistics Business Association, and logistics industry stakeholders, held a meeting to gather input aimed at strengthening connectivity and improving the capacity and efficiency of logistics operations in the coming period.
According to World Bank statistics, Vietnam's logistics performance index rose by 5 positions last year, due to the expansion of business operations, reduced customs clearance times, and the development of domestic transportation services. However, Vietnamese logistics has not yet achieved all the necessary factors to compete with several countries in the region.
Enterprises raised many difficulties in the recent period, focusing mainly on customs procedures and government policy bottlenecks. In addition, challenges also lie in the fact that enterprises have not yet connected with each other to create a uniform playing field among transportation modes.
The goal set by the Ministry of Transport for 2015 is to maintain regular vehicle load control and inspection and supervision work, ensuring strict implementation of regulations on transport business conditions, traffic safety and order, vehicle technical standards, and services.
Strengthen investment in upgrading and renewing vehicles and handling equipment for rail, inland waterway, maritime, and air transport modes to organize passenger and freight transportation on major transport corridors.
Prioritize investment and accelerate the implementation of infrastructure projects; improve the efficiency of transport infrastructure maintenance to connect transportation modes and major freight consolidation facilities at key transport hubs.
Continue to implement accurate, comprehensive, and timely communication of all information regarding regulations, mechanisms, and policies related to passenger and freight transport operations.
